7 Ways to Survive a Heat Wave

7 Ways to Survive a Heat Wave

The mercury is set to soar this weekend, and it looks like we've still got a long, hot summer ahead. But never fear!

From cool bevies to frozen delights and all the spots to chill out, we've compiled a list of survival tips for when things get a little heated.

Ice Cream

A classic survival staple when feeling a bit frazzled. Located in both Barwon Heads and Queenscliff, the family owned Scandinavian Ice Cream Co. serve up the creme-de-la-creme of... cream. Plus gelatos, sorbets and other frozen treats. Open late in the summer months, but you'll want to eat it quick.

Adventure Park

From Victoria's biggest waterslide, to a more relaxed ride on the appropriately named Lazy River, Geelong's Adventure Park is literally made for days like these. Bring the bathers and let the kids loose for an awesome day of aquatic fun.

Just want to kick back in a cool, dark place for a few hours? Geelong's iconic Village Cinema has a whole host of summer screenings, as well as some world-class facilities. Take the whole family and top it off with a choc top.

Back to School Shopping

We know it's not a traditional way to relax, but bear with us. Crowds will have calmed down, there's still sales on and best of all Central Geelong Shopping precinct is full of nicely air-conditioned shops for preparing for the new school year. Plus, you can relax for the rest of the month knowing you're ahead of the game.

When the sun comes out, make a beeline for the beach. Whether you're whiling away  or taking to the ocean there's plenty of options on The Bellarine. Learn to surf with Go Ride a Wave or get yourself up and paddling in no time with the teams at WSUP or Paddle Life, and if you're feeling the heat there's no shame in 'falling' in.

Cold Drinks

If all else fails (or as a perfect accompaniment to many activities) a refreshing beverage is highly recommended to beat the heat. Find a shady spot for a cider at Flying Brick, grab a booth outside at Little Creatures or ease your way through a tasting paddle and some live tunes at Queenscliff Brewhouse
