A High Flying Weekend

A High Flying Weekend

Look to the skies, and brace yourself for high flying antics (and some seriously loud engines) as the Avalon Airshow flies into town. Explore a host of historical displays, and marvel at modern-day machinery and futuristic advances in aerospace. There is so much to do and see, stow your tray tables and buckle in for a truly unforgettable day (or more).

Avalon Airport is only a 20-minute drive from Geelong CBD, so since you're here, why not make a weekend of it and check out some of Geelong’s must-dos once you've had your fill of flying machines.

Sample the food.

Geelong has a host of delicious dining options; from fine dining to bistro style to a selection of cafés. Focused on fresh and local produce, make a booking for a post Airshow dinner on the waterfront, or head to Little Malop St and take your pick of the options!

Sip on the coffee.

The Geelong coffee scene is going gangbusters, so if you're ready for a special brew, there are some killer cafes and specialty roasters ready and waiting. What better way is there to refuel before or after the Avalon Airshow than with the ultimate fuel source – coffee.

Admire the art.

We love some art appreciation in this part of the world. Galleries include (but certainly aren't limited to) 101 Ryrie Arts, Geelong Gallery and Metropolis Gallery but you can also absorb the superb Geelong art scene by walking the streets and waterfront. Geelong Waterfront and laneways are scattered with numerous, impressive art installations and of course the famous Bollard Trail

Shop up at storm.

Central Geelong have two main shopping centres – Market Square Shopping Centre and Westfield Geelong. Both conveniently placed directly opposite each other so those weary shopping legs do not have to travel far for  fashion outlets, homeware stores, big name brands, luxury shops and much more. If further shopping takes your fancy, you can wander outside of the centres and explore the surrounding streets and laneways of Geelong for something a little more special.

Grab a drink.

The bountiful Bellarine is also home to a ripe offering of bevvies, with Geelong the ideal departure point. This means that not only are the restaurants stocked with delectable local wines but cocktail bars, breweries, wine stores and cellar doors are readily stationed throughout the CBD and regions beyond.

Geelong is one cool place to explore. So make a highflying weekend of it and enjoy some extra time after the Airshow.
