Check out the arts and culture scene of Geelong with local Lexi

I have an enthusiasm for arts and culture that is stronger than most adults twice my age.

My appetite for all things cultural is infectious and I want to share it with all my friends and family when they visit. So, if you're into checking out the arts a culture scene of Geelong, here is my little guide to get you started...

Pivotonian

I’m on a first-name basis with everyone that works here. This joint is truly an icon of Geelong’s unique character, screening quality independent feature films from around the globe, every day. It was one of the first places I fell in love with when I moved here. I’ve convinced a lot of my friends to love it as much as I do. You’ll usually find me here with a choc top in hand on a weeknight, or a delicious local craft beer on the weekend.

National Wool Museum

If you want to become more acquainted with Geelong’s rich history, this should be your first stop! You’ll discover everything about our economy, the wool industry, and why Geelong is known as the 'wool centre of the world'. An added bonus? The museum always has super cool exhibitions on display. They’re genuinely immersive experiences that are just as fun as they are informative. (I’ll never get sick of all the life-size sheep figures).

Geelong Gallery + Street Art

Aah, I’ll never get sick of this place. The Geelong Gallery is a staple when it comes to our artistic and cultural advancement. Take a stroll through the grand interior and you’ll be greeted with beautiful visual snapshots of what Geelong once looked like, years and years ago. I can recite the names and dates of basically every art piece… just ask me.

To top it off—make sure on your way out to meander through our city streets, and you’ll stumble upon some pretty incredible street art. Do you reckon my landlord would kick me out if I painted a mural on the side of my house?

Tip: Start at Little Malop Street and let your feet guide you around the city, there's something to discover around every corner. Forte wrote a cool article here that can get you started.

Geelong Library & Heritage Centre

Here’s somewhere I could get lost in for a long time! The Geelong Library is a creative hub that looks just as cool and interesting as everything inside it. Browse their vast collection of books or attend any of their 4000+ events every year hosting inspiring writers and thinkers from a range of creative fields. After you’ve hit your limit immersing yourself in Geelong's history, learn about your own in the Heritage Centre. Apparently, I have seventh cousins with the surname Shufflebottom!?
