Drysdale: Rail Or Trail

Drysdale: Rail Or Trail

The original train line to Queenscliff is now the route for the Bellarine Rail Trail, stretching from South Geelong through to the historic Queenscliff Railway Station.

The rail tracks were removed from the section between South Geelong and Drysdale, which is roughly half way. Bellarine Railway still operate vintage steam trains between Drysdale and Queenscliff on weekends and holiday periods, and the trail runs alongside the track.

It’s a great and safe way to explore the surrounding farmland and there are still some areas of native eucalypt vegetation.

A good way to explore this section is to ride the (mostly downhill) section from Drysdale to Queenscliff, then load your bikes into a carriage and catch the steam train back to Drysdale.

Bellarine Railway has several themed events each year, including A Day Out With Thomas and seasonal trains carrying Santa and the Easter Bunny.

Drysdale Station is the half way point on The Blues Train’s progressive return party from Queenscliff, and the station grounds host regular markets during warmer months.
