The Royal Treatment this Long Weekend

The Royal Treatment this Long Weekend

Fun Fact:  Did you know that Queen Elizabeth’s birthday is actually April 21? But that doesn’t stop us Aussies enjoying a long weekend in her honour. Actually it’s the last long weekend for a few months so make the most of this one! As Her Majesty has just turned the regal age of 90, we thought it the perfect excuse for you to enjoy the royal treatment as well.

Whichever direction you enter our region you will be stopped in your tracks by the stunning views. Be it from the top of the You Yangs Regional Park, sweeping vistas across the Moorabool Valley or around the bay, there are treasures to be found around every corner. The views at Basils Farm nestled on the edge of Swan Bay are simply stunning and the majestic outlook across the bay from  Jack Rabbit Vineyard  is nothing less than world class. If you are an Instagram lover take in all the beauty by following the hashtag #visitgeelongbellarine. See if you can add to it!

All ladies love a little "me time" to pamper and preen. We need to look our best and have the finest things. Before you head off to find your winter wardrobe you most definitely need your colours done. Jan's Colour Analysis Service specialises in matching your natural skin tones, hair and eye colour to those in fabrics and clothing. Knowing your colours will enable you to buy clothes and accessories that will highlight your inner beauty and build your self-confidence.

Once you’re set to shop get your chauffeur to drop you in Queenscliff for some serious vintage shopping, boutiques and a range of art galleries including Salt Contemporary Art or Queenscliff Gallery and Workshop. Any day is a good day for a Day Spa to make you feel like a Queen and flowers make any home feel and smell like a palace. Van Loons Nusery in Wallington is a must see.

Did you know that Queen Elizabeth has 2 nicknames? “Lilibet” is the better recognized name but apparently the Duke of Edinburgh is known to affectionately call her "Cabbage". When you have a stately name things just feel a little more fancy. Try Noble Rot in Point Lonsdale for all things wine and European influenced snacks. The Empire Grill has always stood the test of time for a fine dinner in Geelong.  Show your Lady an evening out at The Lord of the Isles and the whole family can enjoy the Aussie favourite, fish and chips, at King George Fish and Grill.

There’s no better excuse to bring out the Royal Doulton than for a good brew, but be sure not to dunk your biscuit. Tea is possibly more suitable for this occasion but the die-hard coffee drinkers shouldn’t miss out either. If you crave the best of both worlds the only place you need to visit is Coffee & Tea Cartel. They traverse the world to bring Geelong citizens the greatest range and quality of tea leaves and coffee beans to suit all palates. You can sip a cup with them or chose to take some home to enjoy another day.

For the full royal treatment, one must book in for the next Grand Afternoon Tea at the Vue Grand in Queenscliff. It has been said that class and style are things to be savoured, enjoyed & never rushed. Sip on a perfect cup of tea while the Grand Piano plays setting the scene for an afternoon of indulgence. Tea party attire is encouraged so pop on your favourite frock for this occasion.  Feel like a princess sipping a cup of tea in the Geelong Botanic Gardens. Visit the pleasingly located Tea House surrounded by lush green grass and gardens to admire in any season, the perfect spot to spend an afternoon.

We heard that Ol’ Liz doesn’t mind a tipple of Gin either, so after you’ve had your fill or tea, stock up on the classic spirit at Barwon Heads Wine Store if you’re around that way.

The best way to a man’s heart is through food, so treat your prince charming to a pleasant breakfast to start you day. Belsize & Co in the main street of Queenscliff, is open Mon - Sun so you can enjoy eggs benedict any day of the week. Their coffee rivals any Melbourne café so it’s an all-round crowd pleaser. While still on The Bellarine enjoy a champagne breakfast at Terindah Estate, be sure to stop at their cellar door before you head off. If you are wandering around Geelong for a breaky fix stop at Freckleduck for ricotta and blueberry hotcakes or head to the sweetest little spot, Little Green Corner, for waffles topped with smoked salmon and house made cordials that might even convince you to give up coffee.

Sometimes the best kind of luxury is a good night’s sleep. Think fluffy dressing gowns, views of the ocean and your own in house cinema. This is where Queen Elizabeth would stay when not at the palace!

Starhaven Retreat, Indented Head: You can relax in your private infinity bath, steam shower and sit by your private fireplace to watch the giant 3D TV! Make sure you stay long enough to fit in a bit of private cinema time. Lonsdale Views, Point Lonsdale: Looking out over Bass Strait, The Rip and surrounding farmlands from a hilltop position between Point Lonsdale and Ocean Grove. The property also has private beach access, indoor pool and spa, billiards room, library and more. The Turret Suite sits proudly at the top of the grand dame of Queenscliff, the Vue Grand. You won’t want to leave the room, when you can take in views of the ocean and the peaceful township of Queenscliff, all from the double spa bath.

So as you plan your royal tour around Geelong and The Bellarine, raise a toast to the Queen for another year of blowing out the candles. Happy Birthday Cabbage!
