The You Yangs

On Two Wheels Or Two Legs

Mountain bike or take a hike - reconnect with nature in the You Yangs region.

North of Geelong, granite peaks dominate the skyline of the surrounding region. We call them the You Yangs (from the Wadawurrung people), and for generations, families have enjoyed nature walks and views from the summit. More recently, work undertaken to create tracks has made it a hit with mountain bikers and nearby Serendip Sanctuary and the Brisbane Ranges are a haven for wildlife and native flowers.

The entire precinct is perfect for invigorating adventures in natural environments, either on two legs or two wheels.

50km of mountain bike trails offer a challenge for all abilities, with regular events for enthusiasts held around the park. Elsewhere, tracks and trails lead to spectacular views (especially at the Flinders Peak summit), plus it’s dog-friendly so your fur baby can tackle the trails too.

Of significant importance to the local indigenous people, there's lots of history too. There’s evidence of water wells and canoes and an ancient stone circle at Wurdi Youang, Little River. Bunjil the geoglyph is a huge sculpture of the mythical creature celebrating local indigenous connections.

Further afield, the area hosts some impressive events with the biennial Australian International Airshow at Avalon Airport and the annual Lara Food and Wine Festival every March.
